From Chicago to East London: Meet Birdsong's new intern, Lea Poulos
We're delighted to introduce Lea, who's joining Birdsong for the next 12 weeks as our social media intern. Over to Lea to introduce herself properly.

Hi, I'm Lea 👋
I'm so excited to be joining Birdsong for the next 12 weeks as their social media intern. I'm studying Business Administration (with a minor in PR and Advertising) at DePaul University in Chicago, and I've come over to London for this placement, organised through the University of Westminster.
A bit about me: before starting here, I spent the last year working as a freelance fashion stylist, styling editorial shoots and slowly building my own styling brand. I've also picked up plenty of retail experience along the way. Fashion has always been the thread running through everything I do - but it wasn't until I started working in styling that I really began to think about where clothes come from, and where they end up.
That's what drew me to Birdsong. I love that every piece starts as deadstock - clothing that was already made, never sold, and would otherwise have gone to landfill - and gets a second life instead of adding to the pile of new production the industry doesn't need. It's fashion with a story, and I think that matters more than ever.
The things I'm looking forward to working on
I can't wait to meet Mona at Bow Sewing Centre and see first-hand how she transforms rescued garments into something completely new. I'm also really looking forward to reaching out to brands who are thinking creatively about what to do with their overstock, in the same spirit as Birdsong's rescued Summer Tees drop - there's so much potential in finding better answers to that problem than landfill.
Thanks for having me, Birdsong - I can't wait to get started!
Lea 💛
