What happens to summer stock when the season ends?

Racks of perfectly good clothing, unsold and unworn, waiting in a stockroom somewhere - until it's cheaper for a retailer to destroy it than store it. It's one of fashion's quietest problems, and one we think has a much better answer.

At Birdsong, we're reaching out to retail brands with excess summer inventory who want something better than landfill for it.

Here's the idea: instead of overstock disappearing into storage or the bin, we work with Mona, Birdsong's embroiderer, to transform it into small, limited-edition runs - hand-embroidered, genuinely one-of-a-kind, and with a story worth telling. It's not just waste reduction; it's turning unsold stock into something customers actually want to buy.

Over the past few weeks, I've been opening conversations with several leading fashion retailers to explore what they're currently doing with overstock, and where Birdsong might be able to help.

What makes this exciting to me is that the hard part is already done - the materials exist, the garments are made. The opportunity is just in seeing them differently.

We're looking for retail partners who want to do the same: brands ready to turn excess stock into something with a second life, rather than letting it quietly go to waste.

Got summer stock sitting unsold? Get in touch at info@birdsong.org.uk and let's talk about what we could make together.
