News from Birdsong

Birdsong is going through some changes

The combination of rising interest rates and the economic downturn has had a severe impact on our business.

The last couple of years in particular have been exceedingly challenging, so - after 8 years in business - we’ve had to pause our operations while we consider new ways to achieve our mission to make fashion fairer for everyone.

We’ve always been aware that operating Birdsong as a social enterprise brings a raft of additional challenges, but we willingly embrace this. We won’t compromise on our values - we value our makers and we believe they deserve to earn living wages. We also care about the environment, we believe it is our duty to protect our planet whilst making beautiful clothes.

Running Birdsong has been one of the biggest privileges of our lives. Working with you, our customers, our incredible makers and our wider network of supporters, advisors and funders- all with the shared goal of making fashion more ethical and joyful - is what has made it so uniquely special.

The good news is that this isn’t goodbye….we just need to pause for a short while and reset.

We want to emerge from this with a stronger business model so we can continue our work.

For now, we want to say a huge thank you for your support so far. Without customers like you, we wouldn’t have been able to create fair wage work for our network of talented women workers that makes such a positive change to so many lives.

In the coming weeks we'll be open to having conversations with potential investors.

Birdsong will contunue to have strong ESG credentials. If you would like to discuss how you can support Birdsong as we move forward, please drop us a line at info@birdsong.org.uk

The good news is that Birdsong will be back soon; we’ve secured some short-term backing that will allow the assets and the essence of Birdsong to live on.

Thank you for all your support. More updates soon!
